TIPS FOR SUCCESS AT A JOB FAIR

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF A JOB FAIR

Consider the job fair to be your one shot to make a good first impression. Don’t take this encounter for granted – you may never get to a formal interview unless you make a positive impression on the recruiters. Since it is so important to impress prospective employers at a job fair, here are some tips:

  • Dress Appropriately – You don’t have to wear a suit if it is an outdoor event, but dress in a professional manner.

  • Try to find out which companies are exhibiting at the job fair and learn about them. Use the Internet or your local library to find out who they are and what they do.

  • If you can find out which companies are exhibiting, make a plan of action by prioritizing which booths you want to visit the most. This way you can take more time with the companies you are most interested in, instead of feeling rushed.

  • Update your resume and bring them in a nice folder, attaché case or briefcase. You will look more professional. Take time to think of your skills and develop some brief talking points that you can give the employers. Remember, their time is limited so you want to be brief and to the point.
